On March 20, 1985, Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant, the first nuclear power plant in mainland China to be independently designed, constructed, operated, and managed, officially commenced construction, marking a new chapter in China's nuclear power industry.
Now, as it approaches its 40th anniversary, Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant is once again at the forefront of innovation—AsiaInfo's self-developed P5G (Private 5G) network and 5G LAN (Local Area Network) core functions tailored for the nuclear power plant's circulating water system have been successfully implemented at Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant, representing the first commercial application of 5G LAN technology integrated with a P5G network in the nuclear power sector.
The circulating water system is a critical infrastructure for nuclear power plants. A continuous flow of natural water from streams, rivers, lakes, and seas enters the system to dissipate the heat generated by nuclear reactors and generators, ensuring the safe and stable operation of the nuclear power plant.
To ensure the smooth functioning of the circulating water system, nuclear power plants deploy numerous cameras, control switches, temperature modules, medium-voltage cabinets, fire detection devices, robots, and other equipment at the system's water-intake areas, water treatment plants, and along the system's routes for operation monitoring and maintenance inspections. However, the intake areas, water treatment plants, and nuclear power units are often located more than ten kilometers apart, posing a significant challenge for timely and efficient signal transmission across these devices.
AsiaInfo, in collaboration with Qinshan Nuclear Power Co., Ltd., China Nuclear Power Engineering Co., Ltd., and China Mobile Jiaxing Branch, has tailored a solution to meet the unique needs of the nuclear power plant. Leveraging its self-developed 5G LAN technology and integrating P5G wireless base stations, P5G core networks, and other hardware and software products, the company has conducted automation transformation in the communication systems at the nuclear power plant's intake areas and water treatment facilities and established end-to-end P5G LAN private network, enabling the remote and stable transmission of video signals and industrial control system signals from the circulating water system, as well as remote control and unmanned inspection of monitoring equipment. It addresses issues such as “slow data transmission, poor real-time performance, and inefficient operation and maintenance” in traditional nuclear power facility monitoring and management, laying the foundation for automated production operations and analytical decision-making throughout the circulating water system.
Furthermore, the 5G LAN technology in AsiaInfo's P5G network products features network-slicing capabilities, providing customized network services for nuclear power plants to cater to different business scenarios and facilitate the digital transformation of the nuclear power industry.

5G LAN, characterized by high bandwidth, low latency, high reliability, network simplification, and cost effectiveness, is the ideal choice for monitoring the water circulation system. The successful application of this technology provides stable and efficient communication support for data sharing and collaborative work among internal systems and equipment within nuclear power plants. It has also explored more possibilities for real-time monitoring, data analysis, and operation and maintenance of production systems across the energy industry.
AsiaInfo's 5G private network product system (AISWare AgileNet) is an integrated software-hardware product set that includes 5G base stations, 5G core networks, 5G edge computing platforms, private network intelligent connectivity products, 5G CPE, 5G private network operation platforms. Based on this product set, AsiaInfo provides multi-scenario solutions for 5G private networks for vertical industries as well as end-to-end full-stack services such as 5G private network planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance, integration.
In 2025, China's nuclear industry will celebrate its 70th anniversary. As the birthplace of China's nuclear power industry, Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant is responsible for advancing nuclear power technologies and implementing energy strategies. AsiaInfo, as a leading provider of IT products and services, will leverage its “product + service” advantages to support Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant in continuing its “Glory of China”!
