The Network Transformation Awards is one of the most influential awards in the global communications sector. Each year international organizations such as Layer123 and ETSI set up major awards based on the annual hotspots in the communications sector at their annual global summit in London. This year's awards focus on network transformation, and feature the world's best innovations for 2021-2022, attracting hundreds of operators, ICT hardware and software vendors from around the world, making it one of the most important awards in the global communications industry (Figure 3).

Responding to the "Double Carbon"  Strategy for Green 5G

As of September 2022, the total number of 5G base stations in China reached 2.22 million. Since 5G cell bandwidth is high, and technologies such as large-scale antennas are used, 5G macro base stations consume about three times more energy than 4G. During the actual network construction process, operators have a very urgent need to solve the energy consumption problem of 5G base stations.

The 5G intelligent energy saving system developed by AsiaInfo is based on big data and communication artificial intelligence technology. It achieves automatic shutdown and timely wake-up of wireless base stations based on user distribution through deep insight of 4/5G network service load, network energy consumption and network coverage. The system uses Dense-MLP algorithm to accurately predict user services, and achieves accurate user profiles based on B&O domain data fusion to fully guarantee user experience. The system is designed to maximize the energy saving potential of the network by adjusting strategies as base stations and occasions vary.

The system can now be docked to all mainstream base station manufacturers equipment. It enables automatic data collection and analysis and batch command issuance. It supports operators to save energy for 4/5G wireless networks. Compared with conventional plans, through AI technology, it  doubles the energy saving rate up to 15%, with annually saved single-site power of more than 300 kWh.

After years of R&D and practice, AsiaInfo's 5G intelligent energy saving system has developed some clear advantages.

Its 5G intelligent energy saving technology is internationally advanced.

On 11 August 2021, the Science and Technology Achievement Appraisal Meeting of the China Artificial Intelligence Society appraised that the overall technology of AsiaInfo's "5G network intelligence system R&D and industrial scale application" has been advanced both in China and overseas, with five internationally leading subdivisional technologies, including network energy-saving optimization.

Extensive cross-domain pull-through experience

As a neutral vendor, AsiaInfo has accumulated abundant know-how. Its relevant interface capabilities fully comply with the operator's northbound interface specifications, and can widely interface with the southbound interfaces of mainstream wireless base station manufacturers to achieve a high degree of automation in acquisition and control as well as safe and reliable operation. At present, the 5G intelligent energy saving system has been applied on a large scale in Chinese telecom operators and many other sites across provinces. It plays an important role in saving energy and reducing emissions as well as cutting operation and maintenance costs for operators.

In the future, AsiaInfo will give full play to its strengths in know-how, product development and business practice in communications artificial intelligence to help the industry further build green 5G and a greener and more efficient industry eco-system.
