“This year has seen a notable increase in the number of exhibitors, accompanied by a significant improvement in the specifications on display”. At the recently held China Mobile Computility Network Conference 2024, the relevant person in charge of AsiaInfo informed reporters from Securities Daily at the conference site that they had the pleasure of welcoming not only familiar faces from previous conferences, but also a growing number of new attendees representing a diverse range of companies within the China Mobile ecosystem.

The China Mobile Computility Network Conference 2024 was held in Suzhou from April 28th to April 29th. This conference, which replaced the previous China Mobile Cloud Conference held in the same period, saw a change of name and an increase in scale. The exhibition area of the China Mobile Computility Network Conference covers an area of 8,000 square meters, with more than 100 exhibitors. During the conference, 17 sub-forums and series of activities were held.

“China Mobile has completed the leapfrog development of 'from cloud to computing'. The computility network has become the core driving force for promoting the company's transformation and upgrading, and achieving high-quality and sustainable development”. Yang Jie, Chairman of China Mobile, explained the rationale behind the renaming and upgrading of the China Mobile Cloud Conference at the conference. The upgrade from “China Mobile Cloud Conference” to “China Mobile Computility Network Conference” was undertaken with the objective of fostering greater industry consensus, strengthening innovative capabilities, and accelerating the development of the computility network.

Yang Jie stated that China Mobile will accelerate the advancement of the computility network towards the new Computility Network 3.0 era, deepening the new characteristics of the computing network, known as “ULTRA”, which is diverse and ubiquitous, intelligent and agile, rich and easy-to-use, safe and reliable, and green and low-carbon. Additionally, the company will facilitate the large-scale deployment and widespread adoption of the computility network.

Advanced Technologies Make Frequent Appearances

The “ULTRA” designation, as referenced by Yang Jie, stands for “Ultimate” and is an acronym derived from the first letters of Ubiquitous, Agile, Reachable, Trustworthy, and Low-carbon.

At the conference, China Mobile also displayed exhibits related to the new “ULTRA” characteristics of the computility network, included the “N+X” AI Data Center layout system, the newly upgraded intelligent computility network brain, the “Jiuzhou” integrated computility intelligence network, China Mobile Cloud Computers and Cloud Phones, the AI+ Computility Network Security Cloud Brain Platform, and the Mobile Cloud COCA 2.0 heterogeneous computing architecture, which were showcased in rotation.

Additionally, China Mobile officially announced at the conference that the China Mobile AI Data Center (Hohhot), the largest individual AI Data Center for global service providers, has been operationalized, and the Panshi DPU chip was also officially released at the conference.

“Compared to last year's China Mobile Cloud Conference, we have added a 'quantum technology' section to our exhibition stand this year”, a representative from China Mobile's exhibition stand informed Securities Daily. Currently, China Mobile's quantum technology is primarily utilized in the field of quantum communication.

The demonstration by the staff member showed how quantum-encrypted instant messages can be limited in their reading time, allowing messages to be destroyed after reading. Furthermore, the information cannot be seen once the relevant SIM card is removed. Quantum-encrypted calls can encrypt the content of conversations. In the event of a risk of being monitored, the content of the call will automatically be changed to distortion during a call between two parties.

Over 100 China Mobile partners, including Venustech and AsiaInfo, also presented their latest technological achievements and innovative practice cases at the conference.

A representative from Venustech informed reporters at the conference that the company had brought products and solutions in areas such as cloud-integrated security, network-integrated security, DICT-integrated security, and data-integrated security, which were centered around China Mobile's “BASIC6” sci-tech innovation plan.

A representative from AsiaInfo stated that the company's GPT product for communication business had made its first public appearance at this conference. At the same time, the company's latest edge intelligence all-in-one machine and privacy computing all-in-one machine, which represent an important embodiment of the company's strategy of “combining software and hardware”, were also brought to the spot.

Industry Chain Addresses Key Challenges in Intelligent Computility

At the main forum of this conference, Zheng Weimin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, shared his insights on the pain points in the intelligent computility industry. In his view, among the three types of systems that support big model training in the market, NVIDIA's GPU system is the most favored by practitioners due to its superior hardware performance and well-established industrial ecosystem. Domestic computility faces challenges in terms of difficult usability and low efficiency due to a number of factors, including incomplete software ecosystems, the poor performance of system software, a lack of support from sufficient open-source software, and complex parallel programming models.

Zheng Weimin believes that there is still a certain gap between domestic AI chips and the industry's leading chips, but that most tasks will not be significantly affected by minor differences in chip performance. If the domestic computility software ecosystem can be further enhanced, domestic computility will also gain the popularity of more users.

In response to the desire of all sectors of society to collaborate on innovative developments in computility networks, Yang Jie proposed an initiative at the conference. We need to further improve industry-education-research-application integration, jointly breakthrough innovative technologies such as new intelligent computing, advanced computing, and integrated computility networks, and solidify the foundation for the development of computility networks. What's more, we should also jointly accelerate the cultivation of applications, deepen cross-industry and cross-sector collaboration, and expedite the popularization of computility network applications. Finally, we must jointly promote the prosperity of the ecosystem, forming a new pattern for the computility network industry led by leading enterprises with broad participation from small, medium, and large enterprises.
