AsiaInfo’s First International Standard of 3GPP R17 International Standard and AI Federated Learning in the Field of Communication Gains Approval

Recently, the NWDAF (Network Data Analytics Function-5G Network AI) Federated Learning Technology Standard, which was jointly submitted by AsiaInfo and China Mobile, was approved by 3GPP. This is the first international standard for AI's federated learning algorithm technology in the global 5G communication field, which is an important manifestation of AsiaInfo's participation in the formulation of 3GPP Rel.17 standards.

"Federated learning" is a distributed machine learning algorithm that can solve the problem of collaboration among different data owners without exchanging data (the process is shown in the figure below). Since the data is not transferred, it will not reveal user privacy or affect the management of data standards. The modeling effect of federated learning is the same as that of "modeling the entire data set in one place", or there is not much difference. However, federated learning can enable two or more entities to use the other party's data in the process of cooperation under the premise that the data does not go out of the local so as to solve the problem of isolated data island.

The establishment of the 3GPP NWDAF standard means that telecom operators can break the isolated data island and use federated learning technology to improve the performance and quality of 5G network management such as 5G network experience perception, slice SLA guarantee, and wireless network optimization.

At present, AsiaInfo has formed a 5G technology concept of "global virtualization, global intelligence and global perception" and continuously promoted joint innovations in the field of 5G technology and international standardization. It has obtained 9 ETSI international standards, 2 3GPP standards, and 4 ITU standards.
