Despite the pandemic fading into the past, its impact remains etched in people's minds. As such, local disease control departments continually seek ways to leverage technology to enhance early monitoring and response capabilities for infectious diseases.

Recently, AsiaInfo, in collaboration with Zhejiang Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, officially launched the “Public Health Big Data Governance Support Platform” (hereinafter referred to as the “Platform”). This Platform aims to bolster Zhejiang's medical data governance and application, strengthen infectious disease monitoring, early warning, and emergency response capabilities, and efficiently carry out prevention and control efforts.

01 Leveraging Big Data for Precision Diagnostics in Infectious Disease Prevention and Control: From “Post-event Handling” to “Pre-event Prevention”

The Platform comprises three integral parts: a basic management platform, a resource management and sharing platform, and a public health big data integrated governance support platform. The “basic management platform” consolidates all infectious disease monitoring, early warning, and emergency response systems in Zhejiang into a unified portal for centralized management. The “resource management and sharing platform” offers resource management and sharing services, encompassing data, algorithms, components, etc., to disease control departments and individuals across the province. This allows resource applicants, users, and managers to query, apply for, analyze, and manage resources in a one-stop manner. The “public health big data integrated governance support platform” is responsible for collecting, cleaning, governance, and controlling cross-regional and cross-departmental disease control data and ensures the secure development and credible circulation of data assets through a data security management system.

The Platform will provide Zhejiang with unified, precise, efficient, and timely data support for infectious disease monitoring, early warning, emergency response, and various upper-layer applications. It will facilitate the establishment of an integrated provincial-level coordinated platform with “one network for unified management across the province, unified data collection, and hierarchical application of services,” effectively addressing issues such as “inaccessible, unreadable, and non-standard” disease control data. Ultimately, it will achieve data intensification, intelligent prevention and control, and precise decision-making, shifting Zhejiang's approach to infectious diseases and public health emergencies from “post-event handling” to “pre-event prevention.”
