5G network, with its notable advantages of high bandwidth, low latency, extensive connectivity, and high reliability, has been widely adopted across various industries. However, when confronted with the stringent requirements of industrial Internet business for network security, stability, and determinism, 5G network still needs to exhibit certain limitations in fulfilling these requirements, posing new challenges to the 5G network architecture and technical implementation.

TSN (Time-Sensitive Networking) represents a set of IEEE standards that provides deterministic and low-latency data transmission for Ethernet networks, crucial for real-time applications and industrial automation scenarios. The combination of “5G+TSN” is regarded as the primary technological direction for current deterministic networks, as it integrates the high bandwidth, low latency, and comprehensive coverage of 5G networks with TSN's time sensitivity and determinism. This integration offers an ideal network solution for real-time and mission-critical application scenarios.

AsiaInfo has referenced the 3GPP TSN recommended architecture, integrating the 5G system into the overall TSN networking as a TSN network bridge, ensuring end-to-end deterministic data transmission. The core network's UPF incorporates a built-in NWTT (Network-side TSN translator) function, utilizing Intel I225 or I226 network cards for hardware and adopting DPDK user-space drivers and development suites to guarantee forwarding performance. On the software side, AsiaInfo has independently developed functional modules such as 802.1AS time synchronization, TSN flow classification, gate control management, and TSN flow forwarding, realizing special safeguards for TSN traffic.

AsiaInfo and Intel have jointly established an end-to-end testing environment and used Keysight instruments to measure time synchronization accuracy, time latency, and jitter precisely. Actual test results show that the UPF's NWTT can carry out gate control of TSN traffic based on configurations, with end-to-end packet transmission latency jitter controlled at 2.5 microseconds.

AsiaInfo's 5G private networks are currently widely used in industries such as energy sources, mining, chemicals, and manufacturing. The release of the 5G+TSN solution marks the capability of AsiaInfo's 5G private networks to support more critical scenarios, including industrial control scenarios, alleviating customers' concerns about the latency and uncertainty introduced by 5G.
